Dr. Suzanne Cook
Dr. Suzanne Cook is a social gerontologist, adult educator, and a leading-edge scholar who studies career development, older workers and second careers. She coined the term Redirection to reflect the emerging shift towards later life career. Dr. Cook is a professor at Seneca College and Faculty Fellow at the Trent Centre for Aging and Society at Trent University.
Through Carpe Vitam, Dr. Cook delivers educational workshops that focus on Redirection and later life meaning and purpose. These workshops help individuals identify their next challenge.
Dr. Cook received significant funding for her research. The CERIC-funded Redirection Project examines the experiences of mature workers who have transitioned into new occupations. Dr. Cook’s research interests include intergenerational connection and social engagement where her work builds community and stimulates lifelong learning.
Dr. Cook published several articles and book chapters including ‘Redirection: An exploration of career development during retirement’ in The Gerontologist. Her film Redirection: Movers, Shakers and Shifters was screened from coast to coast across Canada following its world premiere in Montreal. Her research received coverage from CBC Radio, The Globe and Mail and Zoomer Magazine. She obtained her Ph.D. in adult education and community development from OISE at the University of Toronto. Ann Marie Gilroy
Ann Marie’s expertise includes coaching individuals at midlife and beyond to uncover the hopes, dreams and aspirations that nurture their soul and offer fulfillment. As older workers are downsized, resized or decide to retire Ann Marie offers practical wisdom and guidance to support new or different career moves.
Through workshops, or one to one, the focus is you, and, “What is it you really want to be doing?” to discover what is important and life giving, not simply an activity or role that society suggests you “should” be filling. Ann Marie, a Certified Career Development Practitioner, has 15 years coaching others through employment transitions, and leading workshop and training sessions. Formal certifications also include B.A. Religious Studies & Personal Development, and MBTI Levels 1 & 2.
